The new year’s arbitrary—but there’s something useful about reflecting on the year gone by and considering the year ahead.
So I’m sending this extra email with links to five previous, bigger-picture Great Work posts—perspectives I’m finding particularly useful to think about as I mull how I’d like to handle my coming year.
(1) Are you working harder than you want to be?
(2) Are you getting as much rest, each day and each week, as you want to get and should be getting? (Sorry — no audio version for this one, yet.)
(3) Could a change in perspective transform how you handle the challenges of your work?
(4) Are you focusing on what you want to be doing, and saying no to roles that aren’t for you?
(5) Wish you spent a little less time on the internet? Last week’s email, but we’ve had people sign up since then.
I hope you find something useful here. And I wish you, in the year ahead, serenity and success doing work that matters to you and to the world.
Warm wishes,
P.S. People have started asking me whether I do talks, speaking, and webinars about this stuff. Why yes, I do! And I love doing them. Recent feedback: “Adam was funny, practical, and honest about the things we all struggle with. Lots of great advice and food for thought.” (Thanks!) I’m unlikely to turn down a non-commercial organization or group just because you can’t afford to pay me much/at all. Can Zoom anywhere. Interested? Email me.
I’m going to check out all of those articles you mentioned. Especially because the intention/word I’ve chosen for this year is “focus” because I do tend to get distracted easily. I think your insights will be helpful.
